KING RAT

SCROLL DOWN

KING RAT

Original Underground Music from the Mile High City  Since 1994

King Rat has been cranking out original two-and-a-half minute tirades about partying, passion and pain for 23 years. Their DIY character and bring-it-on attitude confronts banality while hacking away at the strictures of the status-quo. They celebrate the rush of joy at life’s brightest pinnacle, and traverse the mire of despair in life’s deepest trough. Their music applies literary blue collar grit to the old-school punk rock axe grinding wheel. The result is a sound that presents courage, calamity, sarcasm and rage in varying degrees. King Rat recently inked a deal with Unable Records, who will be releasing the latest inception of this sound. "No Apologies No Regrets" is the band's 10th release, and promises to be their finest - available everywhere on Sept 29th, 2017. Excited fans who want to make sure they get ahold of it as soon as possible can pre-order at http://www.unablerecords.com/kingrat. Contact the band here: kingrat@unablerecords.com. Song Lyrics to No Apologies No Regrets

King Rat -- 2017

I Want to be Mad Music & Lyrics: Luke Schmaltz

I want to be mad and then I’m gonna be sad

Don’t give me your power of positive thinking

I’m a downer drowning drinking

It ain’t rad it’s just a fad to pretend that we’re all glad

I want to be mean not ever in between

Don’t give me your power of human kindness

I’m gonna rage in total blindness

Being nice is a vice with too big of a price

I’m positive that I’m gonna be negative

It’s affirmative that I’m gonna be derogative

I want to be mad

I want to be blue and then a burden on you

Don’t give me your power of self reliance

I’m gonna slump over in defiance

I’m a fool and a tool I don’t believe in the golden rule

I want to be sick a repulsive prick

Don’t give me your power of spiritual healing

I’m overcome with a wretched feeling

You’re a kook and a mook I’ll rebuke and then puke on you

Transplant-itis Music & Lyrics: Luke Schmaltz

I don’t give a damn what kind of car you drive

You’re in the swarm with the rest of the bees the hypnotizing hive

Possessions unimpressive with the money that you make

You ain’t fooling nobody we know those tits are fake

Go back to the status quo

Go back to the plastic zone

Go back to utopia

Go back go back go back to California

You look like you lost a fight, Botox injections

You’re constantly surprised with two permanent fat lips

They siphoned out your guts with your liposuction hips

Get off your ass and exercise now there’s a weight loss tip

You’re sick with vanity you brought the virus here

An immobile calamity no one can steer clear

You didn’t have to go and do all that to your face

Nothing could have been done to fix you in the first place

Death Grip Music: Mike Makkay / Lyrics: Luke Schmaltz

Adderall collateral prescription sodomy

Hooked on distraction slowly slipping into a lobotomy

Oxycodone overdose into the void of opioids

Ease my panic with some Xanax why am I so paranoid

Percocet tunes in my station to the music of sedation

The need for speed I never dream except for about amphetamines

Klonopin took on a whim gain a habit lose a friend

Demerol I’m riddled in Valium now I got the bends

Killing pain on the Coedine train tunnel vision says it’s OK

My nervous system is immersed in a warm bath that drowns my brain

Darvocet when the pain sets in up the dose or I’ll get violent

Vicodin my secret jinn I’ll say goodnight with an ingestion

Death grip closing on me

Death grip I’m in the squeeze

Nothing for Nothing Music & Lyrics: Luke Schmaltz

Everybody wants something for nothing

I want nothing for nothing

It’s a life of hi and bye the end is nigh I know that for one thing

I’ll pay the price for knowing you but I got something I wouldn’t trade for nothing

It’s better to choose and then to lose

Good times with you were so damn worth the blues

I want nothing for nothing

Life it flies on by and you left your mark on me for a long time

I’ll never erase your memory I bear the sign of when you were in your prime

We worked hard to bring you in to earn your trust to show that we were tender

In return you were a friend and to boot a ruthless home defender

The constance of impermanence it’s a short ride the ending ain’t a fun thing

But I got my money’s worth I got something I wouldn’t trade for nothing

Phoenix Jones Music: Mike Makkay / Lyrics: Luke Schmaltz

Being good is bad for me why can’t I let it be

What was a fantasy is now reality

Some say to forgo that I won’t go for

A city sick with evil and I am the cure

You are pervasive and you chase them and then erase them

I’m gonna face you and engage you and debase you

Hypervigilance at a fast past

I’m a masked face in a vast place

On the road to hell with good intentions

Worn down by the rat race

So many damn times twisted heinous crimes

Take their damage toll on innocent folks

Now the turn is mine to set the balance straight

I’m stalking through the night to make you abate

I got the liberty of anonymity with equanimity so let’s roll

Thinkful Wishing Music & Lyrics: Luke Schmaltz

Here’s looking at you kid

We partnered up in crime so many good times on the skids

I wish that I could stop this but I got no control

I wish you didn’t have to go

It sucks that your luck had to run out

But you pushed it to the edge man you really made it count

I’ll say a prayer to you the next time that I roll

I wish you didn’t have to go

So long adios amigo- saying by it hurts me so

I’m frozen as I face this the horror of the floe

I wish you didn’t have to go

I swore that I’d never leave your side

It’s selfish to hold on so I let go when I cry

I’m down here in the dumps now I’m really feeling low

I wish you didn’t have to go

Piss Off Music & Lyrics: Luke Schmaltz

This pathetic age over-sensitivity

It ain’t justified they’re just a bunch of babies

All too blind from crying other wise they’d see

Things can always get worse the first rule of misery

There’s no shortcut home the haul is always long

They’ll hate you when you’re right so you might as well be wrong

You can’t go around the mountain you gotta climb over the top

Can’t please everyone you sure can piss ‘em all off

If you live for other people you can’t live with yourself

Either stand up or be feeble it’s all cowards in hell

So long as you are honest and wield the brutal truth

There will be plenty of folks around to despise you

If you got nothing but friends you’ve surely lost your way

You’ve spent your integrity making them all happy

Who cares if they adore if you can’t say your own name

They’ll suck you dry ignore you if you let them you’re to blame

Thrift Store Kids Music & Lyrics: Luke Schmaltz

I met her in Driver’s Ed School at 14

She wore combat boots she got from the D.A.V.

I took her on a date to Chuck E. Cheese

She wore pants to the prom and I dressed like Rodney

I lettered as a Freshman jock life wasn’t me

I found my styles at the Salvation Army

A letter on a trenchcoat a move that got me beat

Rebel outsiders fighting guaranteed

We were thrift store when thrift store wasn’t cool

Second hand kids in a world of first class tools

We dressed like fools and ditched out of school

We were thrift store when thrift store wasn’t cool

Our Brand X boards were never in the cool kid scene

We got our flannel shirts from the A.R.C.

We were hungry to learn but some things you can’t teach

How to stand alone when the herd won’t budge or breach

Growing up on hand me downs was bleak

Plaid pants pinned and cut at the knee

Ten bucks at Goodwill meant no laundry

They looked down on us as punks, geeks & freaks

Future Politician Music: Mike Makkay / Lyrics: Luke Schmaltz

The classless of the asses out of passes with me

You’re all soaking wet with the denial that you seep

Defiled beneath a pile buried helplessly

It’s your role to dig a hole like a soulless creep

Trigger out your nonsense ammunition of belief

But there is nobody sitting in the driver’s seat

Grip the wheel remotely and watch the rearview scene

And so your life is backwards tragedy repeats

You’re so damn full of it

You got a future in politics

Squeeze and break the hand speak and take it back

Your heart is in the mail and it’s pitch black

Now you grease the wheel pad the pockets as you feel

You stink like the fine print in a rotten deal

Down the Gullet Music & Lyrics: Luke Schmaltz

You can’t see my mouth it’s covered up with fur

Send the liquor south aim for the blur

The beard is the 21st Century Mullet

Down the gullet

I drink a lot of booze I dump it down my face

And there’s a lot I lose It’s all over the place

It’s raining beer like golden bullets

Down the gullet

I became a man a primordial high

I shotgunned a can and had a killer time

The beard is the 21st Century mullet

Down the gullet

I hear a cork pop from way down the block

Make the bottom the top It’s time to rock

Your hand’s on the lever it’s time to pull it

Down the gullet

King Rat (Redux) Music: Zeth Pedulla / Lyrics: Luke Schmaltz

We walk the line and don’t betray

Talk is cheap we don’t pay

You can’t keep the beast at bay

It doesn’t matter what you say

We accept it: nothing’s fair

Stack the odds we don’t care

We came up from down below

We love to jam and live to go

Through the muck we find our way

Darkness to the light of day

Another night time to throw

Give all we got at every show

Through the ringer chewed up and mean

I saved my guts from the machine

I’m not alone brothers and songs

Half scar tissue and twice as strong

The Band

Luke Schmaltz

LEAD VOX, RHYTHM GUITAR

Sometimes referred to as the "word man," Luke's quest for a way to rant, scream, confront and swear without "getting into trouble" led him to punk rock. He steered his penchant for scribbling offbeat diatribes about life's scowling underbelly into a songwriting arc spanning from his late teens through today. He has offended many, and is only occasionally accused of embellishing. He firmly attests: "I'm not lying, I'm just making up the truth."

Mike Makkay

LEAD GUITAR, BACKING VOX

The only things more engaging than Mike's onstage expressions are the notes he hits during guitar solos. His ability on the six string is magnified by a sublime sense of timing and Mojo. Music is in his blood and rather than be a spectator with cans on his ears he chose to pick up the steel and trust that it would lead him to rock. He delivers lightning with a mean attack, a keen ear for melody and a serious ax to grind

ANT RAT

BASS, BACKING VOX

It has been an exhaustive mission on the part of Ant's relentlessly cruel band mates to find even one mean thread in his persona. In the Life Awards for the Nicest Guy in the World, this dude will be crowned winner. A self-professed Star Wars geek, he locks into rhythms like a man with whom the Force is strong. His Jedi ability to Have A Good Time guarantees that everyone around him does the same. Always.

POCKETS

DRUMS

They call him Pockets for his ability to find the rhythmic "pocket" within a song and ride it out evenly like he's roaring off on his vintage Indian motorcycle. He is a sonic guidepost, enabling bleary-eared band mates to focus and keep things wired tight. His talent translates into an uncanny ability to find a gig's location in any strange town (without a map,) and to detect the existence of an In And Out Burger from two states away.

OFFICIAL VIDEO FOR "EMT"

This is King Rat's sonic tribute to all of the selfless first responders out there who put their lives on the line to rescue us morons. EMTs, Firefighters, Search and Rescue, Good Samaritans and yes -- even (some) cops -- you all are not unsung heroes, at least not in the minds and hearts of this Denver punk rock band.
